Auckland Named The World’s Best City To Live In

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s latest ranking of the ”most liveable cities in the world”, our very own Auckland city has emerged on top.

The Global Liveability Index for 2021 was released on Tuesday and since then we’ve been Auckland has been on a high! After Auckland topping the list, Osaka in Japan came in second place, and Ozzies Adelaide in third place.

The last time Auckland was in the top 10 was in 2017, when it came eighth. However, how our city of sails has tackled the recent Covid-19 outbreak has given us the boost we need.

The EIU said in a statement: “New Zealand’s tough lockdown allowed their society to reopen and enabled citizens of cities like Auckland and Wellington to enjoy a lifestyle that looked similar to pre-pandemic life.”

They continued: “Cities across the world are now much less liveable than they were before the pandemic began, and we’ve seen that regions, such as Europe, have been hit particularly hard.”

As someone who moved here a month before the pandemic from one of those European countries, we spoke to our Marketing Manager, Stephanie O’Connor.

”I moved here beginning of February 2020 and to me, that’s been the luckiest thing that’s ever happened to me.” She continues; “It’s been heartbreaking to see my family and friends and a lot of Europe so badly affected in the past year and a half and I’m so thankful for how Auckland/Aotearoa has tackled the pandemic. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else”.

The way that the entirety of New Zealand has tackled Covid-19 has been praised worldwide. As an Auckland based company, OneHQ would like to thank you all for your contributions in making this such a great city to live in.

Take care Auckland, and we’ll hopefully see you on the list next year!
